Downtown housing represents a popular trend with today’s millennial generation which enjoys the social and cultural aspects associated with urban lifestyles. Downtown Adrian offers a plethora of attractive, affordable downtown housing options right in the heart of Adrian. 

When Zac and Valerie Trinka married on May 19th of this year, they were able to settle into their current residence a multi-story loft apartment in downtown Adrian. Their still new apartment, which occupies the front half of the second and third floors of the building at 112 North Main Street represents a perfect example of a beautifully restored and fully utilized downtown structure.

The project represents a three hundred thousand dollar investment by Adrian residents Charles and Natalie Moore and was designed by local architect David Siler of Siler and Associates, Inc. The rehabilitation project encompassed the complete renovation and reuse of the property from what was previously a severely dilapidated, under utilized structure to a fully functional, high-end downtown loft living environment that features everything from granite countertops and wood floors, to an intercom portal which provides outside visitors the ability to communicate with the occupants. The first floor of the building features high quality commercial retail space which has already been leased.

The Trinka’s are Lenawee County natives. They started dating while both were seniors at Lenawee Christian High School and both pursued and received Bachelors degrees from Siena Heights University. The concept of downtown living was a bit of unknown and wasn’t really considered until Zac’s father, Adrian Fire Chief Paul Trinka suggested that they consider visiting the apartment on North Main Street. Even though there was still drywall dust on the counters and floors, the couple fell in love with the idea of living downtown. 

The Trinka’s stated that while sometimes the nighttime noises are unwanted, “we both love the atmosphere; it’s lively and we also like being close to the downtown businesses. This is an interesting time for the district; it’s great to see people working so hard to turn the area around.” 

Zac and Valerie have enjoyed their time in their downtown apartment so far and have said that they “would love to live downtown long term.” 

“Chip Moore’s apartments are a great example of what can be done is someone takes a modern approach to downtown lofts.” The couple also complemented their new neighbor across the street, Bill Click. Click has purchase the property at 107 North Main Street and has also rehabilitated the property but with a more historical flare. “Both are very aesthetically pleasing, and have even amenity that you would expect in a home anywhere. We have kicked around the idea of buying a downtown building, and who knows, maybe someday we will.”

No matter what the downsides may be, it is clear after a few minutes with Zac and Valerie that they have gained a new found admiration for Adrian’s downtown. “Everyone needs to give downtown a chance. It has a lot of potential.”
